Everglades Fishing Report – Nov. 1st 2010

The weather in The Everglades was perfect to run offshore on today’s fishing charter and fish the inshore wrecks just offshore of Everglades City. When we arrived at our first fishing spot the Mackerel were stacked up and striking bait on the surface . TripleTail from Nov 1st Fishing CharterI knew the best way to catch them would be to work a spoon with a fast action, which produced plenty of solid mackerel action. Moving on,  we decided to follow a crab line that Triple Tail like to hang around. After looking at several crab buoys we saw a decent sized  triple tail in the 10lb range, that fell for a rootbeer riptide jig.  As the afternoon passed the wind pick up and we headed to the Chatam River to fish for Redfish and Snook using were live pilchards as bait. The tide was falling fast the Redfish and Snook were on the bite.. We caught and released several nice fish that were in the 5 to 12 lb range.

November is a great month for fishing in the Everglades with the cool mornings and pleasant afternoons.

If you would like to book an Everglades fishing trip please give me a call.

Everglades Fishing – October 19th Report

This weeks fishing in the Everglades was fantastic, with the weather starting to change the cool morning temperatures has turned on the fishing . When we left my dock this morning the we decided to head south to fish the grass flats off Lostmans River and fish for Trout .Snook from Everglades Fishing Charter

When we arrived at our first spot the Trout were on the bite! Our first drift across the flat produce Trout in the 3-5 lb range. The bait that worked the best was a smoke colored riptide shrimp tail jig. After catching enough Trout for dinner we decided to switch gears and fish for some Redfish and Snook . With plenty of live bait around we broke out the cast net and filled the live well with some nice size Pilchards . The spot we decided fish was a beach front island that had a lot of blow down logs and snags, a prefect spot for Snook and Redfish to lurk . Our first cast hooked into a big Snook that we couldn’t turn and after a few seconds broke us off . On our second cast we did much better landing and releasing a nice 12 lb Snook.

As the rest of the day went on we caught several more Snook with some nice Redfish mixed in .

With the cool October and November weather the fishing in the everglades should remain good with a lot of great action. It’s the perfect time for fishing charters, so lets go catch some fish.

September Fishing Outlook

We are coming into the one of the best time of year for fishing in the Florida Everglades. In September the big pilchards start showing up and are the prime bait that we like to use . Snook is one of our favorite fish we like to target this time of year and love to eat live Pilchards with the water still warm they like to hang around the outside points on a rising tide and are usually on the bite Snook can average all different sizes this time of year they can range anywhere from 20 inches to 38 inches . September Fishing OutlookAnother great fish we love to hunt for this time of year are Redfish . Redfish love to school up around the oyster bars and along the beach fronts . Some favorite baits Redfish like to eat a this time a year are a live shrimp under a popping cork or a fresh cut ladyfish . When you locate school of redfish you can be into some great action for hours on end. For some fast action this time of year we like to drift the grass flats and fish for Trout . Trout love to school up in 3 to 5 ft of water, one of the most productive way we like to fish for trout is to bounce a riptide jig slowly along the bottom or to use a live pilchard under a popping cork the Trout we usually catch this time of year can average between 2 – 5 lbs t . The Pompano and mackerel fishing starts to also heat up in September and can be found over the grass flat mixed in with the Trout.  September is truly great time to fish in the Florida Everglades so if you would like to book a trip please give me a call and thanks for visiting my website.

I am offering $50 off any 6 hour trip for September if you call to book a trip before September 15th.

Everglades Fishing – May 9th Report

Snook from Everglades Nat'l Park FishingLots of bait translates into red hot Everglades fishing. Schools of Pilchards, one of the finest baits for everything that swims here, have moved into the area. I’ve been starting the day by throwing my cast net to load up the baitwell, which pretty much guarantees non-stop action for the day. My favorite technique is to position the boat about 30 feet from one of my secret spots and throw out a few “freebie” baits just to get the fish excited. After that it’s just a matter of adding a fishing hook and line to the baits as we throw them in.

On the falling tide today the Snook were averaging in the 28 to 34 inch range, along with a mix of slot-sized Redfish. After the tide started back in we moved out to the grass flats, and still using the Pilchards, caught some decent sized trout.

This week the weather in Everglades City has been perfect… Hot and very little wind so we’ve also been able to run offshore about 2 miles to the inshore wrecks to target Permit. We landed one that tipped the scales at 27 lbs using a live blue crab for bait.

During the Summer months the best fishing action will be had earlier in the day. So give me a call and lets join the fish for breakfast!

Thanks for checking out my Fishing The Everglades website.

Everglades Fishing Report – May 26th, 2010

First thing’s first… There is NO OIL IN THE EVERGLADES, and the fishing here remains spectacular!

Everglades Snook caught while fly fishing
Everglades Snook on Fly

Today had fly fishing on the schedule, and the weather in Everglades National Park was cooperating, no wind and crystal clear water. I figured we’d take advantage of the glassy smooth conditions and head just offshore to look for permit. As I idled up to a wreck that is notorious for holding Permit I saw a curved dorsal fin flash, confirming  we had found a school. Unfortunately, they would follow the fly but wouldn’t commit to eating. After a couple of well placed casts didn’t close the deal we switched up to Tripletail and were quickly rewarded with a decent 8 pounder that ate a brown clouser minnow fly. As the day progressed we targeted Snook in the shallows. I tied on a white deceiver pattern, and ended up hooking  4 Snook that went to 24 inches. Just as I moved the boat a little farther down the shoreline over white sand bottom I saw a bruiser cruising in about 10 inches of water! A well placed cast brought on a feisty fight that ended up with this Snook posing for a photo he didn’t plan on when he headed out this morning 🙂

With Father’s Day approaching I’ll be offering a limited number of discount coupons for everglades fishing charters. Best thing is to sign up (over on the right) so you’ll receive that information when it is published.
