Everglades Fishing Report
With the weather forecast in the Everglade calling for high winds and heavy rain, for the afternoon we decided to try and get most of the day in before the heavy Everglades rains started. We left my dock in Everglades City at day light and headed deep into the backcountry to fly fish for the Everglades snook. With the thick cloud cover we had a feeling the Everglades snook bite was going to be on. The first spot we stop at the Everglades snook were striking bait along the Everglades shoreline. We slowly eased the boat down the shoreline casting a green and white Everglades Deceiver fly, within the first five minutes we caught a nice 7 lb. Everglades snook. As we continued down the Everglades shoreline we caught several more nice snook. By the afternoon the wind stared to pick up and the rain clouds stared to build over the Everglades, we ducked behind the lee of the island where the Everglades shorelines is protected and continued scoring with several nice Everglades snook. When the rain started we decided to head back to my dock in Everglades City. Despite the heavy winds and rain it was a great day of Everglades’s snook fishing.
The next day the rain in the Everglades had stopped but the wind was still blowing hard. We decided to head into the deep passes of the Everglades and try our luck bait fishing for the Everglades tarpon and shark. The bait of choice for tarpon and shark are a live ladyfish that inhabit these Everglades waters. With several live bait in the well we headed to our Everglades spot and floated one bait on the surface and another on the other bottom. Within minute we had our first Everglades shark on; it was a 150 lbs. bull shark. After a 30 minute fight we had this Everglades bull along side of the boat where we released him safely back in the waters of the Everglades. Throughout the whole day we caught several other species of sharks that swim in these Everglades waters, like the black tip, lemon and hammerhead. These sharks follow the Everglades tarpon migration. This day of Everglades fishing was a lot of action. We caught and released several big sharks and jumped and boated 2 tarpon in the 100 lbs. range.
